Dignity packs available at community centres

Council officer Natalie, Cr Peter Maynard, counci officers Debbie and Pam.

Toothpaste, shampoo, and other sanitary items were placed in 150 bags set to be distributed to community centres across the municipality.

Mayor Peter Maynard joined council officers to assist in the production of ‘dignity packs’ made for vulnerable people experiencing difficulty.

Cr Maynard said the dignity packs were a “small way we can make a difference”.

“Wyndham City Community Centre staff have brought to fruition a great idea of doing something small that will make a difference to people facing unstable accommodation,” he said.

“They came up with the idea of creating dignity packs for men and women and they reached out to the Wyndham community and sought donations.”

“A fantastic idea that gives vulnerable people experiencing homelessness one less thing to worry about. Providing dignity packs – gives back a little bit of dignity.”

Council said the amount of donations received was “overwhelming”, with many large businesses donating toiletries, blankets and gift vouchers.

The dignity packs will be distributed to all council managed and community managed community centres and available for those in need to pick up Monday to Friday, 9am and 5pm.
