Building begins on new schools

Construction is under way on two Wyndham prep to year nine schools, with both earmarked to open in term one, 2019.

Work has begun on stage one of the new Sanctuary Lakes South P-9 school on the corner of Kirra Place and Saltwater Boulevard in Point Cook. Stage one of Truganina East P-9 school, located along Elmhurst Road and Mainview Boulevard in Truganina, is also under way.

According to the Victorian School Building Authority, the schools will each accommodate about 675 students.

Principals for both schools are expected to be appointed in the second half of this year.

The Truganina campus will also include a Truganina East Integrated Family Learning Centre, which will be run by Wyndham council. The centre is expected to open in 2020.

A spokesman for Tarneit MP Telmo Languiller said Truganina P-9 would be built in three stages, with stage one including the school’s prep to grade six component.

Stage two will include performing arts and physical education facilities, and school buildings to accommodate years 7-9 will make up stage three. Both stage two and three are subject to future budget funding.

“We are still finalising Truganina’s P-9’s enrolment details ahead of its opening next year, and will update the community when this work is completed,” the spokesman said.

A spokeswoman for Altona MP Jill Hennessy said Sanctuary Lakes South P-9 was also being built over the same three stages, with stages two and three subject to budget funding.

The works come one month after Ms Hennessy unveiled initial designs for Point Cook South Senior Secondary College.

Star Weekly understands the state government has faced challenges in acquiring a site for the school, but is finalising arrangements for compulsory acquisition of a parcel of land.
