New question procedure for council

A new deadline has been introduced for queries submitted to Wyndham council’s public question time.

Under a revised meeting procedure policy, adopted by the council earlier this month, residents must submit their questions by noon on the day of a council meeting.

Previously, residents could submit questions until just before meetings began.

A council report stated the amendment would allow council officers “to have more information at hand to answer the public questions”.

The council will also allow residents to submit questions through its website, rather than requiring them to print a form and send it in via email, or drop it off in person.

People will still be required to attend council meetings if they wish for the question to be answered verbally at the meeting, rather than in writing.

The new meeting procedure will also provide the opportunity for e-petitions to be submitted to the council. Previously, the council would only accept written petitions.

A council report stated that “clear guidelines and conditions” would be required to enable e-petitions to be lodged and signed via the council’s website.
