Tuesday night’s federal budget is set to include $740 million for a freight terminal at Truganina.

The federal government announced funding for the Western Interstate Freight Terminal on Monday.

It said the project would create 39,000 job opportunities and drive economic growth.

The freight terminal project will improve local, national and international freight movement by bringing warehouse precincts closer to freight terminals, according to the government.

The federal government has also allocated $920 million for the Outer Metropolitan Ring Rail South connection, seeking to create new road and rail transport links for Werribee and surrounding areas in Melton, Tullamarine, Mickleham and Epping.

Senator Greg Mirabella said the projects will make roads safer and reduce travel times.

“Investing in infrastructure upgrades ensures we are planning for a better future, giving locals the roads and services they need and deserve,” he said.

“The federal government’s record infrastructure investment pipeline continues to deliver better outcomes for the people of Victoria.”

More to come.
