Work to do for Wyndham

Wyndham might have two wins on the board, but there’s still a lot of work to do in the Big V men’s state championship division.

With a new-look side and a new coach, Lucas Allen, Wyndham is taking its time to get up to speed on the court.

Allen said there was still a lot of work to do despite sitting undefeated.

“Results wise we can’t get a much better start,” he said. “I’m OK with it, but not overly happy with it as there’s a hell lot of work to do.

“But I’m understanding why we’re playing this way. We had limited preparation as a full team and it will still take some time.”

Allen said they had just two and half practices together before the start of the season and it was something they had been prepared for.

He said it was a credit to the group that they were still able to get wins despite not playing well.

“Once everyone understands their roles and where their shots are going to come from, we will be even better.”

On Sunday, Wyndham easily accounted for Western Port Steelers, 118-73.

Allen said there were some good signs, but other areas they have to work on.

“We put the points on the board, but not quite in the way we would have liked,” he said.

“Defensively I was not happy in the first half. They did a good job in the second half, locking down that and making it a focus despite the margin.”

Maurice Howard led the way with 40 points.

Wyndham faces McKinnon Cougars on Saturday night, in a match Allan believes will be a good test of where they are at.

Wyndham’s women’s side had mixed results on the weekend.

On Saturday night they lost to Bulleen Boomers, 76-57, before on Sunday beating Southern Peninsula 77-71.
