Mumpreneurs are on the rise – that’s the word from Alli Price, who has created a business club concept so new mums can bring along their little ones while discussing their other babies – their new businesses.
Ms Price said the idea for Businessmums Clubs was born when she had her first daughter and decided to run her own business in a bid for better control of her work-life balance.
She’s not alone – mothers of young children are three times more likely to be self-employed than other working women, according to the Australian Institute of Family Studies and the Australia Bureau of Statistics.
“I very, very quickly realised, especially being quite a social person, that it’s actually quite isolating running a business from home,” Ms Price said. “And then you’ve got kids on top of that as well, which keeps you at home a lot.”
Businessmums’ Clubs allow small groups of mumpreneurs to get together – kids are welcome, too – and help each other out with business questions, challenges and concerns in a relaxed, informal environment. To date, there are more than 15 Businessmums’ Clubs in Melbourne and one in Canberra.
