Meet Werribee’s future firefighters.

Werribee siblings Brandon and Breanna Borg and Ryobi and Blake Hindle are all active members of Werribee CFA’s junior brigade, and got their first taste of the work of volunteer firefighters recently when they competed at the Volunteer Fire Brigades Victoria state urban junior championships in Warrnambool.

The events at the competition are designed to help budding firefighters become efficient in operational skills.

Breanna, 16, was inspired to join the junior brigade by her cousin Emily Martignago and believes being involved with the emergency services will her help achieve her goal of becoming a paramedic.

“I wanted to follow in [Emily’s] footsteps, she’s always been an inspiration,” Breanna said.

“The Werribee Fire Brigade is like a second family to us. We love the togetherness of doing things as a family.”

Similarly, Ryobi and Blake are one of many family members to be involved with Werribee CFA, with aunts, uncles and cousins already part of the crew.

“We think it’s a good way to help out the community,” Ryobi said.

Werribee CFA’s junior brigade has 17 members, with another six on a waitlist.
