Expectant mums are already booking in to give birth at the new St Vincent’s Private Werribee as the finishing touches are being added to its maternity ward.
The hospital, which will open its doors on January 30, will admit its first expectant mothers from late February and is expected to welcome about 300 babies into the world in its first year of operation.
The ward is fitted with four delivery suites, private maternity rooms, a special care nursery, CTG neonatal monitoring, a pharmacy and radiology, ultrasound and pathology services.
Dr Joseph Drentin is one of four obstetricians who will ensure an obstetrician is on site 24/7.
Doctors Sujata Hemrajani, Boski Shah and Ananda Wijewardana are also part of the team.
Dr Drentin, who has been an obstetrician for the past 20 years and currently works out of St Vincent’s Private Melbourne, said he had delivered a number of babies to mothers living in the western suburbs.
Now expectant parents across the west will be able to have their babies closer to home.
“This way, people won’t have to worry about being stuck in traffic while in labour,”
Dr Drentin said.
St Vincent’s Private chief executive Kate Goodwin said one in three Wyndham women currently gave birth in hospitals outside the Wyndham area.
