Tickets are on sale for Avalon Airport’s first international flights.
Travellers can expect to bag flights for as little as $99 to Kuala Lumpur to celebrate the first AirAsia flights from Avalon, with the very first AirAsia X flight scheduled to arrive at Avalon on the morning of December 5.
Avalon Airport chief executive Justin Giddings said construction of the new $38 million international terminal was well under way and that it would initially accommodate twice daily return services.
“At almost 9000 square metres, it will house state-of-the-art facilities with the latest innovations in customs equipment and processes, as well as a fantastic choice of duty free shopping and food and beverage options,” Mr Giddings said.
“By the time the first AirAsia flight touches down at Avalon, we’ll have affordable parking right out the front of the new terminal or, as always, the option for SkyBus to deliver passengers from Melbourne, Werribee or Geelong right to our front door.”
Avalon board member Ari Suss said the new terminal was being built with functionality and convenience in mind.
It is expected more than 500,000 people will go through Avalon’s international terminal in its first year of operation.
AirAsia X Malaysia chief executive Benyamin Ismail said the move to Avalon Airport was a game-changer for consumers and tourism.
