On Sunday, May 28, thousands of people and their dogs will step out against animal cruelty, with the RSPCA’s Million Paws Walk back for another year.
In its 30th year in 2023, the RSPCA will welcome supporters back to around 34 in-person walks across the country, where participants will be treated to a memorable, festive celebration of animals and their humans, including live entertainment, food, competitions and much more.
RSPCA Australia chief executive Richard Mussell said Australia’s leading animal welfare charity couldn’t be more excited for this year’s event and encouraged all dog owners and dog lovers to join the fun.
“The theme for the RSPCA Million Paws Walk this year is to be a hero for dogs in need,” said Mr Mussell.
“And that couldn’t be more appropriate – we rely on the generous support of the community and that includes superheroes like our donors and those who welcome a rescue dog into their life.
“The RSPCA Million Paws Walk is a great chance to get out of the house with your beloved pooch, friends and family in a fun and sociable setting.
“The RSPCA Million Paws Walk is one of the biggest events on our calendar, and a reminder of the life-saving work we do in providing love, care and support to animals in need, and that the generosity and backing of the community helps us continue that work. You’ll be helping us, literally, every step of the way,” said Mr Mussell.
In the lead up to the event, participants are encouraged to fundraise online and through merchandise sales available on the RSPCA Million Paws Walk website.
“All funds raised go directly to the RSPCA, which helps us care for and rehome around 94,000 animals that come through our doors each year,” said Mr Mussell.
“Last year we saw nearly 20,000 dogs turn up to our shelters – many were victims of cruelty, abandoned or bred to turn a profit. So each step you take at Million Paws Walk helps in our fight to bring that number down.
