Wyndham council has announced the finalists for the 2022 Art Prize.

More than 560 artworks from more than 360 artists were submitted for entry and a variety of mediums were used including painting, drawing, printing, photography, sculpture and video.

Wyndham council’s creative portfolio holder Cr Marcel Mahfoud said the entries featured many different themes.

“The stand-outs were responses to the pandemic and the exploration of gender, identity and place,” Cr Mahfoud said.

Eighty-four shortlisted artworks will be featured in the Wyndham art prize exhibition, on display from Thursday, June 2 until Sunday, August 7, at the Wyndham Art Gallery.

Cr Mahfoud said the exhibition will “delight” and “move” viewers.

“Many of the art works are expressive and evoke a sense of cultural pride that will resonate with Wyndham residents. Entries from fourteen Wyndham artists will vie for the Local Emerging Art Prize.”

The 2022 prize winners will be selected by an external panel of artists and curators including Maree Clarke, Haylet Millar Baker and Andy Butler.
