A famous indigenous Australian singer will bring the songs of Aretha Franklin to Werribee later this year.

Christine Anu will pay tribute to the late Queen of Soul in REWIND – The Aretha Franklin Songbook. She will be joined on stage by the Western Region Concert Band and SingWest.

During the show, Anu will sing some of Aretha’s most famous hits, including (You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman, Bridge Over Troubled Water, Angel and Today I Sing The Blues

Anu will also perform songs from her own back catalogue of hits, including My Island Home and Sunshine On A Rainy Day.

During her music career, Anu has won five ARIAs, eight Deadlys, a Green Room Award for Best Actress in a Musical and Song of the Year for My Island Home.

Anu said she grew up listening to the music of Aretha, who died last August.

“I believe she is the greatest soul singer of our time and I’m truly grateful to have the opportunity to pay tribute to this wonderful woman in this way,” she said.

REWIND – The Aretha Franklin Songbook will be performed on Saturday, October 19 at the Wyndham Cultural Centre. Cost: adult $55, concession $47.
