Young Tarneit resident Shrey says that winning a national badminton title is like “being on top of the world”.
Shrey, 11, played his way to becoming national under-13 singles badminton champion at a tournament in Altona earlier this year.
But that success is just one of many he has notched up.
Earlier this month, he came first in the under-13 singles and doubles at the state titles in Ballarat.
And last year, Shrey came first in the same two categories at the New South Wales Winter Junior Grand Prix.
“Playing in competitions is fun – I like playing with my friends,” Shrey said.
Shrey said he took up badminton because his father, Gaurav, is a player.
He is hoping to become a professional badminton player and compete at the Olympic Games.
He trains three days a week at the Altona Badminton Centre, home of the Western Suburbs Badminton Association, and also plays for the Badminton Academy of Victoria.
Shrey also helps out with coaching at the Wyndham Badminton Association.
“I’d like to thank my own coaches and the Altona Badminton Centre, home of the WSBA,” Shrey said.
