Benefits of early reading

A NEW program that encourages Wyndham parents to read to their children from a young age is being offered through Wyndham Park and The Grange maternal and child health centres.

As part of The Smith Family initiative, parents of children aged 4 months, 12 months, 18 months and 3.5 years such as Lana (pictured with sons Riley, 4, and Aiden, 3) will be provided with resource packs when visiting the centres.

Packs include tips on how to read to babies and toddlers, suggested reading lists and an age-appropriate book.

Anton Leschen, general manager of The Smith Family, said the program’s launch followed the release of research that showed children from disadvantaged backgrounds were developmentally vulnerable when they started school.
