Andrea Barnett believes everyone has a tale to tell.
The Werribee South resident is sharing her life stories as part of a cabaret show at the Wyndham Cultural Centre on Friday night.
The show features songs written by Ms Barnett, with the audience given prime seating on stage alongside her.
It will be part of Wyndham council’s
Music in Our City program, which gives local artists a chance to showcase their work.
Ms Barnett says she’s grateful for the opportunity the council is giving her.
“Original music is not a big thing in this area, so it’s great to get that support from the council. I think what they’re doing is great,”
she says.
“I’m quite a quiet person socially and this is my way of sharing my stories with people. It’s just a fantastic opportunity.”
Ms Barnett began songwriting and performing in the 1990s, taking to the stage at venues around Collingwood and Fitzroy.
She recently left her public service job to concentrate on her music.
“My life has been a mix of working full-time and then working really hard on my music,” she says.
“I haven’t made a living from it yet, but I hope to do so.”
Tickets cost $20 and are available from the cultural centre or by calling 8734 6000.
