Cinderella tale twisted for cancer

One of the most famous fairytales is about to be turned on its head to help raise money for cancer research.

Twenty-four Wyndham locals will take to the stage at the Wyndham Cultural Centre on September 5 to present their twisted take on Cinderella.

The pantomime was written by Faye Lockwood-Rourke from Point Cook Relay for Life team Slightly Mad Entertainment and Events.

In her interpretation, Cinderella runs away from the ball as soon as she arrives and her Fairy Godfather and Mother Goose start a search.

This is the fourth time the Slightly Mad team has staged a theatre production to raise money for Relay for Life. Ms Lockwood-Rourke said the shows allowed team members to combine performing and raising money for charity.

Last year’s relay was particularly special for Ms Lockwood-Rourke after her best friend died of leukaemia just days beforehand.

“It gave me the push to get through the event – to keep striving for a cure,” she said.

Once Upon a Rhyme will be at the Wyndham Cultural Centre on September 5 from 1pm and 3pm.

Tickets cost $10 and are available from www.wyncc.com.au
