The red carpet will be rolled out and colourful saris will be on display when Bollywood comes to Werribee next week as part of the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne.

The free event on Sunday, August 30, will celebrate Indian film culture with free screenings at the Wyndham Cultural Centre, including festival best film Piku and best indie film Kaaka Muttai.

The first screening will be at 11am. Festival-goers will also enjoy food and dancing in the Watton Street piazza.

Wyndham council cultural diversity portfolio-holder Gautam Gupta said it was the first time the Indian Film Festival would include activities outside Melbourne’s CBD.

“Wyndham has a strong and vibrant Indian community and this is a great opportunity for residents to come together, watch a movie, have some fun, find out about their neighbours and learn about Indian culture,” Cr Gupta said.
