Kevin Hillier is at his wits’ end over Wyndham’s gridlock
For those readers who spend half their days gridlocked in the mess that is our local traffic, finally there’s light at the end of the tunnel.
Wyndham council’s Transport Planning Team (who knew we had one of those?) has prepared a Wyndham Integrated Transport Strategy or, as they like to call it, WITS.
According to the press release, “WITS has taken an evidence-based approach to provide an over-arching framework for local and regional transport planning, network development and investment priority over time”.
In Hillier-speak that means, “This is another bureaucratic waste of time and money to tell you that the roads can’t handle the volume of traffic and we are nowhere near being able to fix the problem, but we certainly can come up with lots of ways to look like we care and will listen to what you have to say”.
We all know that the Get Wyndham Moving campaign didn’t live up to its name or aim, so why should WITS be any different? The good news is, we don’t have to wait long as WITS will be completed in June, which is about the same time as someone leaving Point Cook can expect to arrive in the Melbourne CBD.

Weerama returns
Weerama is alive and well and on again from Friday, March 18, to Sunday, March 20. The festival’s format is slightly different to previous incarnations, but the idea is pretty much the same.
It’s a community event with a range of activities for people of all ages and backgrounds. It is being run on a modest budget, and resident expectations should factor that in. I wish the organisers all the best and hope it’s a success.
