July 30, 1975

The Town Planning Appeals Tribunal has given approval to the Melton Sewerage Authority to use land near the Werribee River for sewage treatment. The tribunal rejected submissions from Werribee shire council and farmers near the proposed plant that effluent from the treatment works would pollute the river.

July 31, 1985

A change in the law could mean hundreds of parking fines issued and paid for in Werribee since 1983 are invalid. Last week, council recommended that it seek an order under the Transport Act so that its officers could “legally police” off-street parking areas affected by the change.

An outraged Werribee mother has slammed Wyndham council and the Education Department for refusing to accept her daughter into kindergarten. Her daughter has been shut out of the council’s kindergarten system because she was born one day too late.

Werribee police inspector and Geelong mayor Shane Dowling defended his decision last month to cut ties with the head of a community group formed to help boost police numbers in Wyndham. Inspector Dowling had criticised the Wyndham Action Planners’ spokeswoman Lori McLean after she questioned his commitment to boosting police numbers in Wyndham.
