Here’s a quick look at some of the other sport from across Whittlesea and Hume over the last week.

BOWLS

Bundoora RSL’s finals hopes are starting to slip away in Bowls Victoria’s Premier Division. Needing wins, or at least to take points from defeats, RSL lost three of the four rinks in going down 86 (16) – 81 (2) against Altona on Saturday. The loss sees RSL 18 points behind fourth-placed Yarraville Footscray. RSL’s second team had a draw against Whittlesea in division 1, section 4. The two teams couldn’t be split, finishing 77 (9) apiece. In the same division, Lalor lost 82 (14) – 70 (4) against Lilydale. Craigieburn and Broadmeadows both suffered losses in division 2, section2.

PREMIER CRICKET

Greenvale Kangaroos made their highest score of the season against Carlton in Victorian Premier Cricket on Saturday. A week after their worst batting performance of the season, the Kangaroos managed to bat through the first day against Carlton to reach 8-271. All but two batsmen made starts as eight players made it past 15. Zaheer Hussain top-scored with 58.

Metropolitan Northern and Metropolitan North West both failed to qualify for the semi-finals of the under-18 male state championships. Metropolitan Northern lost all three group matches, while Metropolitan North West finished third in its group. It finished equal on points with the top two sides but missed out on the finals on run rate.

NWMCA

Gladstone Park will be defending 7-186 on day two of the match against Burnside Springs in the North West Metropolitan Cricket Association’s George Luscombe Shield on Saturday. The Burras batting line-up put in a consistent effort on the first day, with all but two players getting starts and Ashan DeSilva top-scoring with 56. Campbellfield is in deep trouble after day one against Kealba–Green Gully. The Gully batsmen rattled up made a massive 7-297 before reducing Campbellfield crumbled to 8-70 by stumps..

TURF CRICKET

Greenvale Kangaroos returned to the winners list in the VTCA’s senior division on Saturday. Chasing Beaumaris’s 3-185 at Greenvale Reserve, the Kangaroos passed the target in the final over of the day. Captain Jon Kent top-scored with 48 in his team’s total of 7-190. Tullamarine suffered a loss at the hands of South Caulfield, while Westmeadows beat Craigieburn and Jacana lost to Avondale Heights in north A1.
