A picnic at Werribee Park on Australia Day next Tuesday will have live music and loads of entertainment for the kids.

Food trucks will roll in, but families are being invited to bring their own picnic baskets and a blanket. Children’s activities include a treasure hunt, Aboriginal art workshops, horse and carriage rides, and lawn games including a tug-of-war and egg and spoon race.

Music will include an INXS cover band.

The picnic begins at noon, but patrons are advised to get there earlier to witness a citizenship ceremony at 10.30am.

Wyndham mayor Adele Hegedich has warned residents celebrating at home about the dangers of illegal fireworks, including the distress they cause to animals, and potential for serious injury and fire.
