Point Cook travel agent stays home

Tamsin Catto can get you anywhere in the world – from the comfort of her home.

The 35-year-old travel consultant has run a Travel Counsellors franchise out of her Point Cook home since 2009 and describes it as the perfect set-up for both her family and clients.

Ms Catto, who has worked in the travel industry for 15 years, decided to go out on her own after having her three kids.

“It gives me the flexibility to be there for my young kids and for my clients,” she said.

“Instead of my clients having to line up at a travel agency, I can be available any time … I can meet with them at a time and place that suits them. I often go to people’s houses or place of work, or a cafe, to chat to them about their holiday plans.

“Being available any time is particularly handy when clients are travelling overseas and a natural disaster, or airline strike, occurs – just a quick phone call or email to me and I can get everything sorted.

“Working from home is not for everyone, but it’s the best thing I ever did. I love my job – and I’ve never said I’ve loved my job before.”

Ms Catto is hoping to boost her company’s profile by entering the home-based category for this year’s Wyndham Business Awards.

Wyndham Business Awards

The awards are open to registered businesses in Wyndham in the categories of tourism and hospitality, franchise, home-based, manufacturing, not-for-profit, retail, service, new and emerging, and transport and storage.

Awards will also be presented to the business of the year and the business person of the year.

Entries close on June 26 and the winners will be named on August 28.
