Race club chief resigns

Werribee Racing Club chairman Patrick Wheelahan (pictured) has resigned. General manager Ross Kendell said Wheelahan had made a significant contribution to the club during a difficult period of restructure and renewal. “Patrick’s tenure with the Werribee Racing Club has seen the establishment

of the Werribee International Horse Centre

and the construction of a new $6 million

track for the club, after the old track faltered

in November 2007.” Wheelahan has

been replaced by former metropolitan

and country racing steward Leon Koch,

who took over as chairman on March 6.
