As the mother of a wheelchair user, Kylie Bozanic believes all sport should be inclusive for people with all abilities.
It’s why the Wyndham resident has organised a recreational Wheelchair Basketball session at Eagle Stadium.
“It’s really important for everyone to be able to play sport, especially people with disabilities, for their mental health, physical health, and sports helps them socialise as well so it ticks all the boxes,” she said.
“Wheelchair Basketball has run in the past at Eagle Stadium, but with COVID and everything it dropped off and we’re just trying to get it back up and running.”
Ms Bozanic had been helping to organise the session for the past eight years, and while participants play using a wheelchair, she says everyone can join, whether or not they have a disability.
“Sons, mums, daughters, they can all play on the same team, everyone can join in,” she said.
“We’re hoping to give people with all different abilities as many different opportunities to play sport as possible.
“Come have a try, hopefully next year we’ll be looking at hosting wheelchair competitions.”
The free session is open to anyone over the age of five, and will be held at Eagle Stadium from 7.30-8.30pm Sunday, December 11.
