Werribee Districts has signed one of the Western Region Football League’s most decorated players for next year’s division 1 season.
Coming off their first WRFL grand final appearance, the Tigers have looked to add some more experience to the group.
The Tigers announced last week that Tim Jenkins was joining the club, crossing from St Albans which is set to change competitions to the Essendon District Football League.
“We are delighted to announce the signing of Tim Jenkins who has joined the club for the 2023 season,” the Tigers posted on social media.
“Tim joins Werribee Districts from St Albans where he has established himself as one of the WRFL’s most distinguished and respected players.
“During his senior career to date, Tim has won two Barry Priest medals as the best player in the WRFL division 1 competition, won multiple club best and fairest awards, been named in the team of the year on multiple occasions including being named as captain in the WRFL team of the decade, represented the WRFL in interleague games and played in the Vic Metro team.
“Tim will not only be a valuable contributor on field but will also bring strong leadership qualities that will be of great benefit for all the younger players at the club.”
The arrival of Jenkins adds some more experience to the Tigers, who made this year’s grand final with the majority of players having come through the club’s pathway.
The club previously announced that former AFL-listed player Michael Luxford had also joined the club.
Luxford joins the club from South Barwon in the Geelong Football League.
Prior to this, he was drafted by Geelong as a category B rookie in 2013 and made his AFL debut in 2015, playing two games.
He played at Victorian Football League level for Geelong and Essendon from 2014 to 2017.
The Tigers have also announced the re-signing of their leadership group for another season.
Captain Daniel Schibeci and vice captains, Lee Johnston and Chris Molivas are back on board.
“The experienced trio remain key contributors to our senior team on field and are exemplary leaders off it and with them again returning to lead the senior team of the club, we know we are in safe hands,” the club said on social media.
Schibeci will be another key addition for the Tigers, having missed the last few rounds and finals with injury.
