Hoppers Crossing’s hopes of victory were dashed in the dying minutes in the FV state league 2 north-west on Saturday. The goals were flying early with the Reds scoring in the fourth minute, followed by Hume United in the 13th minute. The game looked headed for a draw, before a goal to Hume in injury time sealed the 2-1 win. The Reds sit eighth on the table. In state league 4 west, the Truganina Hornets lost to the Westside Strikers, 3-2. In state league 5 west, West Point beat Maidstone United, 5-1, while Wyndham lost to Bendigo City, 5-2.

The City West Falcons will take momentum in the Victorian Netball League championship finals. The Falcons finished the regular season on Wednesday night with a strong 74-58 win against the Boroondara Express, despite missing four players from their squad. Falcons coach Marg Lind said she was really happy with the performance against a strong Express side. The Falcons face the Geelong Cougars on Wednesday night for a spot in the grand final. Westbourne Grammarians were kept to their lowest score of the Victorian Amatuer Football Association division 3 season on Saturday. The Grammarians were kept goalless in the 22.21 (153)-0.2 (2) loss to Emmaus St Leos. Benjamin Johnson was named the Grammarians best. The winless Grammarians face North Brunswick this Saturday.

Werribee City was on the back foot early in its loss to the Bulleen Lions on Saturday in the National Premier League 2 competition. The Lions scored in the second minute with the lead doubled in the 36th minute. Neither team would score in the second half, with the Lions winning 2-0. The Bees sit second bottom and in the relegation zone. The Bees this week face Moreland City on Saturday afternoon.
