Werribee Centrals are hoping to find consistency in the lead up in the Geelong and District Netball League finals.

The Centrals sit in fourth spot after 15 rounds, having won 10 of their matches so far.

Co-coach Casey Price said they were hoping to be able to string a few performances together in the coming weeks.

“We started off really well the first two or three rounds, but then we’re been a little bit inconsistent.

“We’ve had a little bit of everything. Injuries, flu, COVID, people coming back after long term injuries and the impact of COVID the last couple of years.”

Price said they had put together a nice mix of youth and experience in the A-grade side. She said there were a number of younger players coming through the ranks.

“It’s a really nice mix of the youth coming through along with those who have been around the club for a long time and some girls looking to be near the end of their careers.

“They’ve transferred some of their knowledge to the younger ones and it’s a nice combination. There’s a number of under-19s who are playing in B-grade and hopefully getting opportunities in A-grade. It’s great for the future.”

On Saturday, the Centrals lost to Corio, 39-35.

Price said pre-season they had aimed to finish in the top two like they always do, but know that is likely out of the equation at this point of time.

She said they were hoping to start putting together their best netball the next few weeks.

“It’s really about finding that consistent form and solidifying that form into the finals,” she said.

“It’s more about controlling what we put out on the court and that will reflect our ladder position.”

Centrals netball coordinator Ellie Tubbs said there had been some massive growth across the club this season.

She said it was good to see so many juniors getting involved.

“It’s great to have so many of our juniors from 17s and 19s in our senior program and playing D, C and B grade,” she said.

“There’s lots of players to watch out for and makes the future of Centrals netball look promising. We haven’t had 15s and 17s side in over six years due to lack of player numbers.

“Our under-19s are in their second year in the GDFNL and they are sitting clear first and playing really good netball, coached by Tara Parker.

“We’re excited to see them all play finals after what’s been a rocky COVID affected two years.”

Meanwhile on the football field, the Centrals got a win against Corio.

It was a low scoring first half, after neither team kicking a goal in the first quarter.

Centrals opened up a lead in the third quarter, kicking four goals to nil.

The last quarter was a bit closer, but the Centrals had done the damage, winning 10.16 (76)-6.5 (41).

Bryce Linehan-Cunningham kicked four goals in the win, while Tyler Crennan was named their best.

The win was Centrals fourth for the season. They sit in 10th spot.

All the Centrals teams host Geelong West Giants this Saturday.
