Business support

Wyndham council has provided $201,000 in funding to 25 small local businesses to foster entrepreneurship and innovation within the community.

Allocated under the council’s 2021-22 budget, the grants of $2000, $5000 and $10,000 have been given to selected applicants who have their principal place of business within Wyndham.

To be eligible for funding, applicants were required to demonstrate they are run by sole proprietorships or partnerships without employees, or that they employ five people or less.

This is the second year of the council’s business funding program, which received a total of 69 applications.

Examples of the types of initiatives funded by the program include business training and skills development which focus on accelerating business start-up initiation, business growth or diversification; innovative product and service research; and the development of new technologies.

Businesses awarded grants under the latest round of the program include a home-made food production business located in Williams Landing, a Point Cook handmade market and a Truganina electrical contractor.

A Werribee South farm that runs vegetable education for children also received funding, along with a Werribee fashion retailer, a Hoppers Crossing business that sells chemical-free beauty products, a Manor Lakes-based phone app developed for cyclists and the Tarneit developer of artificial intelligence platforms.

Wyndham council’s Small Business Entrepreneurship and Innovation Fund aims to influence the growth of the local economy by assisting start-ups, accelerating growth in existing businesses, build the entrepreneurship capacity of individuals and support local jobs creation.
