A total of 1248 Wyndham residents have been diagnosed with COVID-19 today, the highest amount out of all the state’s municipalities.
According to Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS), 1349 residents of the Casey municipality in Melbourne’s south-east have been diagnosed with the virus, along with 977 Hume residents, 911 Brimbank residents and 886 Greater Geelong residents.
Presently, there are 7559 Wyndham community members with the virus.
The DHHS figures show there are 700 new coronavirus cases located within the 3029 postcode (Hoppers Crossing, Tarneit and Truganina) today.
There are 459 new cases in the 3030 postcode (Werribee, Point Cook and Werribee South).
There is also 203 new cases in the 3024 postcode (Wyndham Vale, Manor Lakes, Mambourin and Mount Cottrell), 43 new cases in Williams Landing (postcode 3027) and six new cases in Little River (postcode 3211).
During the past 24 hours, a total of 20,326 COVID cases have been reported via PCR (a polymerase chain reaction test) and 16,843 “probable” cases via RAT (rapid antigen tests) across Victoria.
Twenty-five Victorians have died as a result of the virus, during the timeframe.
More than 950 people are in hospital with the virus, including 69 people in intensive care.
As of today, 38 COVID cases have been linked to an outbreak at Diamond Valley Pork and Baxters Pork Laverton North.
Another 29 cases have been linked to an outbreak at Werribee Mercy Hospital’s emergency department.
Children aged 5 to 11 years old can now be vaccinated against the virus in Victoria.
IPC Health will open a new vaccination hub for this age group, in partnership with Western Health, on Monday, January 17 at the Dianella Community Centre in Tarneit.
The centre will be open 9am-4pm Monday to Wednesday, 12.30-9pm Thursday to Friday and weekends from 9am-4pm.
