Midsumma festival

Events involving performances and art will be held in Wyndham as part of the 2022 Midsumma Festival.

Described as “Australia’s premier LGBTQIA+ arts and cultural experience”, the festival will take place from January 23 to February 13.

Now celebrating its 34th year, the festival shines a spotlight on queer arts and cultural festivities, showcasing national and local artists.

A total of 195 events will be held at 119 venues across Melbourne and regional Victoria.

The Park Lounge will be held at Kelly Park, Werribee on Saturday, February 12 from 6-10pm.

The free evening of music, theatre comedy and dance will be hosted by Tristan Meecham and Bec Reid of All the Queens Men.

Multi-award-winning cabaret company YUMMY will return to the stage with drag, dance, circus and burlesque.

There will be comedy from Zoë Coombs Marr, along with performances by queer noise-pop duo Cry Club and This Way North.

Presented by Wyndham council, Park Lounge will also feature a surprise guest performance from a Eurovision entrant.

An exhibition titled Rapid Eye Movement, curated by Timmah Ball and Raina Peterson, will be on show at the Wyndham Art Gallery from January 20 onwards.

The free exhibition will explore how people imagine and live through time, space and their bodies, even as bureaucracy contains them.

In addition, the Louis Joel Arts & Community Centre in Altona is calling for new emerging and established artists with a connection to the Hobsons Bay, Wyndham, Maribyrnong, Brimbank, Melton or Moonee Valley municipalities to take part in its installation Colours of the Rainbow in a diverse community.

Work to be featured in the exhibition must include one of the pride colours (purple, blue, green, yellow, orange or red).

Registrations will close on January 19. Registration forms can be found on www.ljac.com.au and more information is available by phoning Louis Joel on 9398 2511 or emailing gallery@ljac.com.au.

People of all ages can register for the installation.

The installation will open Saturday, January 29 and run until Thursday, February from 10 from 11am-3pm daily.

This event is being supported by Hobsons Bay council.
