Community centre officially opens

The $9.2 million Dianella Community Centre has been officially opened in Tarneit West.

Minister for Local Government, Suburban Development and Veterans Shaun Leane joined Tarneit MP Sarah Connolly, Wyndham mayor Peter Maynard and other Wyndham councillors for the event last week.

Maternal and Child Health Services and kindergarten services are based at the centre, which is located at 6 Congo Drive.

Dianella Community Centre also features an outdoor area with a half basketball court, barbecue area and amphitheatre, community meeting spaces, training rooms, commercial kitchen and consulting rooms

The project was jointly funded by Wyndham council and the state government, which provided a $4 million contribution.

Councillor Maynard said he was thrilled to see Wyndham delivering an essential community infrastructure “which will help our residents connect and empower each other”.

“It is especially pleasing that this new community centre is open to support Tarneit West’s growing population,” Cr Maynard said.

“Wyndham city thanks the state government for their support towards this project.

“We are grateful for the contribution that allows Wyndham to build sophisticated community infrastructure to support our community.”

Ms Connolly said: “We want all Victorians to have access to world-class facilities, no matter where they live, and that’s what the new Dianella Community Centre will provide to Tarneit West locals for years to come.”

The team at Dianella Community Centre is keen to hear from residents about the programs and activities they would like to host or see at the centre, contact dianellacc@wyndham.vic.gov.au or call 8742 8300 with suggestions.
