Films feature in Goran’s future

Inspired by his late wife, Point Cook’s Goran Margeta has swapped a career in sales to pursue his dream to become a screenwriter.

Mr Margeta, 47, said that he worked in sales roles in the banking and energy industries for two decades.

But after his wife of 24 years passed away five years ago, he decided it was time to try something different.

“My wife always inspired me to follow my dreams, as she said I was a great writer,” he said.

“She said if I wanted to get into film and be a screenwriter, I shouldn’t waste any more time, and should just go for it.

“Some people said I was crazy to change careers, having had a comfortable salary.

“At this stage of my life it’s not enough, I want to be fulfilled every day in everything I do.”

Mr Margeta is now studying a Bachelor of Film at the SAE Creative Institute in Melbourne.

“Studying film at SAE and dissecting feature films and the meaning behind them is my escape from a really tough world we’re living in,” he said.

“I’m so satisfied with the knowledge and experience that all my film lecturers have shared.

“I now have a lot of confidence in everything that they’ve taught, and I’ve built up a strong rapport with each of them.”

Mr Margeta said that before he started at SAE, he saw himself as a screenwriter.

“I’ve learnt during my journey to not pigeonhole myself too much, because I’ve been interested in directing and producing – I want to absorb as much of the film process as I can,” he said.

Outside of his studies, Mr Margeta hosts a food channel on YouTube called Dalmalika Delights, a management group for aspiring artists and two Carlton Football Club podcasts.

He said that his four children are also “very supportive” of his ambition to work in movies.

“Without them I wouldn’t be where I am today,” he said.
