Residents of the Tarneit Skies Retirement Village enjoyed their very own Olympics last week.
More than 40 people living at the village participated in activities including a torch relay, billiards, mixed bowls, an Olympics quiz, ping pong and quoits.
Village manager Meg Allen-Armistead said the site’s community centre was turned into an Athlete’s Village, featuring international flags and Olympic Rings as decorations
“Our bar area is the ‘Australian Village’ and the walls are adorned with Aussie flags and boxing kangaroos,” Ms Allen-Armistead said.
“Our residents are enjoying the opportunity to have some fun, to try something new and to engage in a COVID-safe way with other residents.
“They have been watching the Olympics on TV and have caught the Olympic bug.”
Ms Allen-Armistead said the mixed bowls activity has been one of the highlights of the event.
“We paired players and rookies together which made for a fun tournament,” she said.
“Some shots at the start were more like ten pin bowling, however that was all part of the fun.
“We may even have a few new players after they gave it a go for the first time which is fabulous.”
Ms Allen-Armistead said Tarneit Skies residents also lined the streets for the torch relay featuring their fellow residents, which was held before the latest lockdown.
“It’s been very rewarding for us to see the enjoyment being gained,” she said.
Residents who competed in the different activities received medals if they placed first, second or third.
