Hoppers Crossing advocate, artist and student Blake Jenner has been announced as the One Wyndham winner for August.

Each month, Wyndham council presents the award to residents aged between 12 and 25 who positively contribute to the community and who are role models to other young people.

Mr Jenner, 25, has volunteered in a range of mental health settings including workshops and webinars.

He has produced videos focusing on the challenges the LGBTIQ+ community faces and how the health sector can better meet the needs of trans and gender-diverse young people.

“I was able to make a difference for the future young people who access healthcare services and need to have their rights and their identity validated,” Mr Jenner said.

“I strongly encourage acceptance of everyone for who they are and support and inspire young people to believe in themselves.”

For the past four years, Mr Jenner has volunteered as part of a Headspace Youth Advisory group.

He is also studying for a bachelor of social work.

“I am absolutely loving it as it gives me chance to not only give back to the community that helped me but helped to create new pathways and new programs that have not been initiated yet,” he said.

Mr Jenner has also exhibited his artworks, which explore the theme of social issues, in the western suburbs.

Wyndham mayor Adele Hegedich said Mr Jenner’s has displayed commitment and dedication, not only in volunteering many hours of his time but also being an active participant in many youth programs.

“Blake demonstrates empathy and compassion and has shown his commitment to helping others through raising awareness of the issues faced by many LGBTQI+ young people in Wyndham,” Cr Hegedich said.

“Blake is a great representative and a positive role model for young people in Wyndham and positively creates an inclusive Details: www.wyndham.vic.gov.au/services/youth-services/awards-competitions/one-wyndham
