It was a tough start for Werribee in Bowls Victoria pennant division 1, section 1 on Saturday.
After a delayed start to the season due to COVID-19 bowlers were finally able to hit the greens and get the season underway.
It wasn’t the start the Bees were looking for against recently promoted Flemington-Kensington.
Playing away, the Bees struggle in difficult windy conditions and with a slow surface that didn’t suit them.
Flemington-Kensington took out the win, 79 (15)-55 (3).
The Bees’ two new skips had the better of the day and were the shining lights.
Mick O’Neil’s rink won by six shots, 17-11, while former captain-coach Snowy Barker, who has returned to the club, was able to come away with a draw, 18-18.
The other two rinks were soundly beaten, with Rob Smith losing 22-11 and Rob Paton 28-9.
Werribee is at home in round two against Bacchus Marsh, another side which earned promotion. Bacchus Marsh started the season with a close loss to Moonee Valley.
