Point Cook speedster arrested after police pursuit

Police have arrested a driver who allegedly reaching speeds of up to 180 kilometres per hour while being pursued by the Air Wing through Point Cook last night.

Officers were patrolling the Princes Freeway when they observed a blue Toyota sedan allegedly travelling at 170 kilometres per hour in a 100 kilometre zone, around 10.20pm.

Officers alerted the police Air Wing, who responded and began following the vehicle which exited the freeway and continued to speed throughout the Point Cook area.

Police on the ground attempted to intercept the car on Sneydes Road but the driver failed to stop and drove away.

Air Wing officers continued to track the driver who got back onto the freeway and allegedly reached speeds of 180 kilometres per hour before exiting at Williamstown Road.

The 40-year-old driver continued through a number of suburbs to Spotswood before dumping his car on Watt Street and attempting to run from police.

He was arrested following a short foot pursuit before officers located what is believed to be methylamphetamine in a bag.

The Spotswood man has been charged with conduct endangering life, conduct endangering persons, drive in a manner dangerous, dangerous driving, driving a motor vehicle when directed to stop, driving disqualified, traffick a drug of dependence, possess a drug of dependence and commit indictable offences whilst on bail.

He was held over to appear at Sunshine Magistrates’ Court today.
