Police have issued fines to two men, including a Tarneit resident, who allegedly tried to cross across the border into South Australia yesterday.
Police allegedly intercepted the men, a 23-year-old from Tarneit and an 18-year-old from Delahey, in a Volkswagen van around 4am, at a checkpoint on the Dukes Highway at Bordertown.
Both men had failed to complete the online application detailing why they wanted to enter South Australia, and were deemed to be non-essential travellers.
They were advised if they wished to enter South Australia they would need to self-isolate for a period of 14 days.
About 12 hours later, Bordertown Police located the same Volkswagon van bogged on a dirt road near Pinehill Road at Senior.
Police said the two men allegedly briefly returned to Victoria before re-entering South Australia, bypassing a border checkpoint and travelling along back roads towards Bordertown.
The two men were both issued with a $1060 fine for failing to comply with a direction under the Emergency Management Act 2004.
They were given the option again to self-isolate for 14 days or return to Victoria, and chose the latter option.
Meanwhile, The Age newspaper has reported that RMIT University’s Point Cook Flight School was closed earlier this week after a student contracted the coronavirus.
The infected student attended a flight class on Sunday with one instructor, who began self-isolating on Wednesday.
The university said the instructor was the only person the student came into contact with at the flight school.
