Two more staff members of Al-Taqwa College in Truganina have tested positive for the coronavirus, as the number of active COVID-19 cases diagnosed in Wyndham residents rises to 12.
Figures released by the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) today show that Wyndham residents have now been diagnosed with an overall total of 70 coronavirus cases.
Premier Daniel Andrews has just hosted a press conference, in which he announced that 10 Melbourne postcodes – including these covering Brooklyn, Kingsville, Maidstone, Tottenham, West Footscray, Albanvale, Kealba, Kings Park, St Albans, Ascot Vale, Highpoint City, Maribyrnong and Keilor Downs, Keilor Lodge and Taylors Lakes – will be placed under stage-three lockdowns from midnight tomorrow.
Residents of these areas will only be allowed to leave home for four reasons: work or school, for care or care giving, for daily exercise, and for food and other essentials.
The total number of coronavirus cases in Victoria is now 2159, with 64 new cases reported yesterday.
Thirteen of the new cases are linked to outbreaks, 20 new cases have been identified through routine testing and 31 cases are under investigation. No new cases have been detected in returned travellers in hotel quarantine.
Of the new cases linked to outbreaks, a new case has been linked to an outbreak at the Coles Chilled Distribution Centre in Laverton, taking the total there to five.
Close contacts of the Coles employee have been told they will need to quarantine.
A second healthcare worker from the Orygen Youth Health facility in Footscray has tested positive.
Positive cases have been identified at five Melbourne childcare centres, including Little Steps Family Day Care in Sunshine and Clare Court Children’s Service in Yarraville.
Across the west, 124 cases of the coronavirus have been diagnosed among Brimbank residents (with 36 active), 62 cases in Melton residents (with 13 active cases), 33 cases among Maribyrnong residents (10 active cases) and 23 in Hobsons Bay (with two active cases).
