Bids out for Wyndham police hub

Tenders to build the $45 million Wyndham Police Complex, which is set to become one of the largest Victoria Police facilities outside the Melbourne CBD, will close at the end of this month.

Construction of the complex, to be built at the site of the existing Werribee police station, which will be demolished, is due to be completed by the end of next year.

A Victoria Police spokesperson said the complex would be four storeys tall with environmentally sensitive design features, consultation spaces, open office areas and staff amenities for the use of partner agencies, residents and community groups.

“The community of Wyndham continues to grow in population, and it’s important the Wyndham police have a larger policing hub that is capable of servicing the growing community,” the spokesperson said.

“The Wyndham Police Complex will be occupied by both general duties and specialist units, including the area’s command, family violence team, Divisional Response Unit, Proactive Policing Unit, Youth Tasking and support staff.

“Wyndham police will have access to improved and larger training and conference areas, extra storage space, fitness areas and secure accommodation.

“The new design will also allow for improved forensic examination capabilities and emergency management response within the policing hub.

“The complex will also have the capacity to accommodate additional operational vehicles.”

Wyndham police Inspector Marty Allison said the new complex would accommodate about 500 police.

“We’re building for the future and that’s very exciting,” he said.

Werribee MP Tim Pallas said: “This new station will ensure Wyndham has a state-of-the art policing hub.”
