Stars in the making

Eight community members are learning to dance to raise funds for youth mental health.

Avalon Dance Stars on the Floor is pairing well-known Wyndham identities with ballroom dancers, who will train them in routines to be performed during a charity gala next month.

One of the gala organisers, Heather Marcus, said the Wyndham “dance stars” have been fundraising in the lead-up to the event, with money raised to go to the Mental Health Foundation Australia and efforts to prevent youth suicide.

Ms Marcus said event organisers were hoping to raise $50,000.

Community members dancing in the gala include GP Dr Joe garra, Avalon Airport chief executive Justin Giddings, Werribee Mazda new car salesman Jamie Marasco, Point Cook Senior Secondary College student Paris Luzaic, Point Cook P–9 College teacher Anne Mackelvie, Mackillop College communications and marketing manager Nicola Muller and Longfeng Su, who is retired.

Avalon Dance Stars on the Floor will be held on Friday, July 19 at the Encore Events Centre, at 7pm. Ticket Prices: $20 to $30.
