Dancing with the stars

Annabelle is striving to become Point Cook’s golden girl of ballet.

The 10-year-old arrived back on home soil on Monday after making her mark at the Asian Grand Prix in Singapore at the weekend, placing seventh out of 43 competitors in the regional heats.

She qualified for the finals of the competition to be held in Hong Kong in August.

In recent weeks, Annabelle claimed six first place trophies at the Australian Dance Competition in the classical, neo-classical, jazz, contemporary, lyrical and self-choreographed categories.

Dance teacher Genevieve Projkoska, of Point Cook Performing Arts, said Annabelle has done the school, her friends and family proud.

“She’s been with the school since she was three,” Ms Projkoska said.

“She’s had lots of success this year in a number of competitions.

“This is the first year that she has done International competitions … it’s these types of competitions that can open doors and allow her to be noticed on the world stage.”

Late last year, Annabelle attended the Youth American Grand Prix in New York and earned an invitation to return to the United States in July and attend a four week intensive dance camp.

Ms Projkoska said Annabelle’s commitment to her craft is what will take her far.

Annabelle also trains at Scimm Platforms Youth Company in Williamstown and the Dance Prescription program with Dr Lisa Ellis.
