Blaze damages Werribee drycleaners

A popular Werribee drycleaning business has been extensively damaged in an overnight fire.

At approximately 10.30pm last night, several CFA brigades were called out to reports of a blaze at Master Dry Cleaners in Watton Street.

A post on the Werribee Fire Brigade – CFA Facebook page said that while firefighters were on their way to the scene, they could see call smoke and flames, so made the decision to call on extra resources.

“Once on scene crews began an aggressive firefight from both ends of the building to prevent the impact of the fire on local businesses,” the post said.

“Fortunately whilst there was significant damage to Master Dry Cleaners the fire was able to be contained before spreading to neighbouring buildings.”

While it remains unclear how the fire started, it is not believed to be suspicious.

Master Dry Cleaners, which is run by the Hudson family, posted about the fire on their Facebook page this morning.

“It is with great sadness that we need to inform the local Werribee community and our loyal customer base that an overnight fire has caused extensive damage to our Watton St, Werribee store,” the post said.

“Whilst we are unsure of the full extent of the damage, we have seen extensive to the building, equipment and garments in the store.

“All customers with garments in the store will be contacted in due course, whilst we follow a process involving the fire department, insurance and other relevant parties.

We ask for understanding and patience at this very difficult time.”

Both Masters Dry Cleaners and the Werribee Fire Brigade thanked the other CFA branches which assisted during the fire, in addition to the staff at the nearby Chatterbox Cafe, for their support.
