IN FOCUS: Avalon welcomes international flights

Avalon Airport is a vital piece of infrastructure in the region. Chief executive Justin Giddings says that’s true for several reasons.

‘Simple travel solutions are as important to the business person as to the holiday-maker – travellers just want to get into the airport and get out again,” Mr Giddings says.

“Smart, efficient, comfortable, economical – these are Avalon Airport’s hallmarks.

“And with the Wyndham-Geelong corridor experiencing some of the fastest growth in the country, the less time spent in traffic jams and queues on the way to the airport, the better.”

In fact, the ease of getting to Avalon is one of the main reasons travellers choose it.

“With the airport only 20 minutes up the road from Werribee, air travel becomes a simple commute, something that’s not lost on the multitudes travelling to Sydney and back from Avalon each day.

“A traveller can catch a SkyBus from Werribee, or make a short toll-free trip up the highway to Avalon, park their car right out the front of the terminal, and check in quickly.”

With the first international passenger flight slated for December 5 this year, ease of access to the airport assumes even more importance as passenger numbers are set to grow.

Travellers from Werribee and surrounds will be able to choose between domestic travel on Jetstar to Sydney, Adelaide or the Gold Coast; or international travel on multi award-winning AirAsia direct to Kuala Lumpur and onwards to more than 130 different destinations, including Phuket, Amritsar and about 15 different cities in China.

Designed for easy flow, the international terminal will have efficient security processes, along with amenities with client comfort in mind. These include duty-free, food and beverage retailers and pop-up shops, as well as free wifi and usb charging. A multi-faith prayer room and currency exchange will be located in the forecourt.

All current facilities, including the car park, are on one level and the international terminal will mirror this single-level accessibility.

“We have configured it in a way that is really easy to navigate – there’s no really long walks,” Mr Giddings explains.

“We believe that travel can be both comfortable and affordable, and we look forward to offering Victorians a truly efficient and comfortable international airport experience.”
