Breakfast gives students great start to the day

A breakfast program at Thomas Carr College is giving students the up and go they need for the day.

The school joined forces with the Hoppers Crossing North branch of St Vincent de Paul in July last year to offer students a free breakfast two days a week.

The breakfast program has proved so popular that volunteers now serve breakfast to about 150 students each morning, four days a week.

Three days a week are funded by Hoppers Crossing North Vinnies, while the school provides funding for one day. Prior to the program, more than 30 per cent of students were coming to school without eating breakfast.

Principal Andrew Watson said the program was a great way for kids to grab a quick toastie before starting classes.

“The very best way to prepare our students for active and engaged learning is eight hours sleep a night and a good breakfast,” he said
