Wyndham residents will soon get a chance to say what they think about the state government’s planned $288 million high-security youth jail.
The state government has announced two community information sessions – one this Friday from 4-7pm, the other on Saturday from 9am-noon – both at Jamieson Way Community Centre at Point Cook.
Residents can find out more about the new youth justice centre, the business case process and the criteria that led to the Wyndham site being chosen.
The government has also called for expressions of interest from Wyndham locals who want to participate in the project’s community advisory group.
A Justice and Regulation department spokesperson said the group – which is expected to include people from Wyndham council, residents, traders, and government agency representatives – would be selected based on their contribution to the community and a demonstrated understanding on the local issues relating to the project.
The spokesperson said the terms of reference and final structure for the group was still being developed.
“The CAG will provide input on issues of community interest and provide a forum for information sharing.
“[It] will help to ensure the local community, including special interest groups and business groups, are receiving timely and accurate information, and have the opportunity to participate.”
