More rail part of Wyndham growth plan

Rail upgrades and other transport improvements for Wyndham are part of an Infrastructure Victoria plan to cope with the state’s population growth.

Infrastructure Victoria made a number of recommendations in a draft 30-year strategy released last week, including the following for Wyndham:

  • Duplicating the tracks and adding new train stations along the Regional Rail Link corridor through to Deer Park;
  • Extending the metropolitan train network from Wyndham Vale to Werribee within the next five to 15 years;
  • Timetable changes to realise the capacity benefit of the Regional Rail Link within five years;
  • Property development opportunities along the Geelong/Werribee/Wyndham rail line; and
  • Improved access to major middle and outer metropolitan employment centres, including Werribee.

Infrastructure Victoria is currently accepting submissions on its draft strategy, and will present a final version to the state government in December.

From there, the government has 12 months to respond to recommendations and develop its own five-year plan.

LeadWest chief executive Craig Rowley said he would be preparing a submission for the state government.

Brimbank crime investigation unit detectives executed a search warrant at a Banker Street address in Kurunjang on Monday following a series of burglaries, armed robberies and aggravated burglaries. As well as the Tarneit teen, other males arrested were a 14-year-old from Kurunjang, 17-year-old from Frankston, 15-year-old from Burnside Heights, 13-year-old from Melton West, and a 15-year-old from South Yarra. All six have been charged with aggravated burglary, armed robbery, theft of a motor vehicle and bail-related offences.

Call to reclaim stolen goods

Wyndham police are looking to reunite theft victims with their stolen items. The Wyndham burglary unit has recovered multiple items that detectives believe to be stolen, including watches and other jewellery, handbags and foreign currency. The items were stolen during home burglaries in the Wyndham area. A 35-year-old Hoppers Crossing man has been charged and remanded over a series of burglaries and handling stolen goods. Police are asking owners of property stolen in the area to call the burglary unit on 9742 9444.
