Every year, the Fashion Awards Australia show there’s no shortage of creativity in the country’s emerging fashion industry.

Last year, gowns were made from tulle, recycled opportunity shop clothing and even metal.

Wyndham councillor Heather Marcus, who founded the event 19 years ago and remains its director, hopes this year’s event in October will continue to showcase an abundance of creativity.

The awards attract students and young designers from across the country to the west, where the final parade will be held.

Entries are now being accepted for all 16 categories, including race wear, full-length gowns, rags to runway and avant-garde fashion.

Closing date for entries is September 16.

Cr Marcus says the awards are designed to nurture the creativity and growth of secondary and TAFE students studying fashion, as well as emerging designers.

She says the Fashion Awards Australia committee is invariably amazed by the dedication and hard work of students and their teachers.

“The judges are always thrilled to see the creativity of the designs entered, and are certain these young people have a bright future ahead of them,” she said.

The final presentation will be held on Friday, October 7, at the Lakeside Banquet and Convention Centre, Taylors Lakes.

Tickets will be available online from August 3 at www.fashionawardsaustralia.org.au.
