A decision by the Melbourne and Metropolitan Board of Works to freeze development in the areas west of Werribee River has pre-empted the findings of a specialist committee, which is inquiring into problems associated with flooding in that area. The specialist committee has been set up to produce recommendations into methods of flood mitigation in the river catchment to permit development of the area without the threat of flooding.

Werribee Shire Council will buy the historic Laverton Primary School property in Klora Street. But it will withdraw from the purchase if the price tops $155,000 or if shire engineer John Nicol decides the building would be too costly to renovate. Also, there could still be legal hitches which could prevent the council from getting the money, even if it does decide to sign on the dotted line.
