Werribee’s CBD is set to reach new heights – 12 storeys, in fact.

Plans for a $49.5 million high-rise hotel, education precinct and carpark, to be built on the corner of Synnot Street and Duncans Road, were lodged by development and project management company Citinova, on behalf of the Pelligra Group last week.

The site is currently a 104-space carpark. The planning application proposes a 150-room hotel run by an international hotel tenant, office space, an education centre, retail, a cafe and 371 carparking spaces.

According to the Citinova website, 84 per cent of the available office space has already been snapped up by a “blue chip” tenant. Citinova did not respond to requests for further information by deadline.

The carpark – dubbed the Gateway site – is one of four ground-level carparks owned by Wyndham council that will be converted to high-rise complexes in coming years in a bid to rejuvenate the heart of Werribee.

The council has entered into a public-private partnership with Pelligra and the Burbank Group for the $250 million revamp of the sites, with the Gateway development the third site to have a planning application lodged.

Wyndham council has already granted planning approval for a nine-storey development at the Cherry Street carpark that will include 814 carparking spaces over several levels, as well as office and retail spaces and a childcare centre in the upper levels.

In August, plans were lodged for a 10-storey mixed-use building with ground-level shops and residential apartments for the carpark at 3 Comben Drive.

If approved, the Gateway development will be the tallest development in Werribee’s city centre to date.

A new 180-space carpark under construction at the old Werribee Toyota site at Watton and Synnot streets, will open in December.
