A Hoppers Crossing tyre retailer will be forced to pay more than $4000 in fines and clean-up costs after dumping tyres near Campbells Cove beach.

Pana’s Performance Wheels and Tyres has been issued with a $2500 fine from Wyndham council and ordered to pay $1889 to cover the cost of cleaning up as well as additional court costs for the dumping hearing.

Wyndham mayor Peter Maynard said it was the council’s fifth successful prosecution for illegal dumping this year.

“Illegally dumping rubbish costs the ratepayers over $1 million each year, not to mention the negative impacts on the environment and local amenity,” he said.

Cr Maynard said many of the items illegally dumped could be taken to a tip for free.

He encouraged residents to continue to collect key evidence when reporting illegal dumping, including location, date, time, items dumped, vehicle used and number plate details.

“This information is invaluable when conducting an investigation and subsequent court case,” Cr Maynard said.
